England E-Bike Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Meet your guides at Penrith Station this morning before transferring an hour to the west coast and the shores of the Irish Sea, where our coast-to-coast adventure begins.
Today’s ride takes us into the heart of England’s Lake District, cycling alongside the crystal-clear waters of Crummock Water and Buttermere, two lakes carved by ancient glaciers and surrounded by steep green fells, rocky peaks, waterfalls, and classic stone walls. The route winds through one of the most scenic valleys in the region, with heather-covered hillsides, grazing sheep, and sweeping mountain views throughout the day.
A support van boost is available over Honister Pass, allowing everyone to enjoy the spectacular descent into the remote valley of Gatesgarthdale Beck. This evening, we’ll gather for our first dinner together in Keswick, one of the Lake District’s most beloved market towns. 38 miles ±3029’.
Day 2: Leaving the Lake District behind, we ride northeast through peaceful countryside toward the historic market town of Brampton. Along the way, views open toward the vast moorlands and sweeping landscapes of the North Pennines, one of England’s largest protected national landscapes and a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Tonight we settle into a delightful inn in Brampton’s historic town center, where you’ll find cobbled streets, the distinctive octagonal Moot Hall, and reminders of the region’s rich past, from Hadrian’s Wall to Bonnie Prince Charlie’s 1745 journey through the area. 43 miles ±2935’.
Day 3: Today follows the route of Hadrian’s Wall, the northern frontier of the Roman Empire nearly 2,000 years ago. We’ll stop at Vindolanda, one of Britain’s most fascinating Roman archaeological sites, before continuing east toward Hexham. Rich with Roman heritage and medieval architecture, Hexham makes an ideal base for the next two nights. 36 miles ±2521’.
Day 4: Today is yours to relax and recharge. Spend time exploring Hexham Abbey, which dates back to the 7th century, and the Old Gaol, believed to be England’s oldest prison, or join an optional gentle hike in nearby Kielder Forest, home to England’s largest man-made woodland and some of the darkest night skies in Europe. 0 miles.
Day 5: The North Sea begins calling today as we ride through the quiet countryside of Northumberland. Small villages, rolling farmland, and peaceful country lanes lead us toward Alnwick, home to one of England’s most iconic castles. Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England and was famously featured as Hogwarts in the early Harry Potter films. 45 miles ±3695’.
Day 6: Our final ride may be the most memorable of the week. Following the coast north, we pass beautiful beaches, sweeping dunes, and the dramatic silhouette of Bamburgh Castle rising above the North Sea from its volcanic rock perch. Once the seat of the powerful Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria, it was famously featured as Bebbanburg in The Last Kingdom. Bamburgh Castle may be the most striking coastal castle in the country.
We continue on to Holy Island and the haunting monastic ruins of Lindisfarne Priory. Accessible only during low tide, Holy Island has been a place of Christian pilgrimage for centuries. We shuttle back to Alnwick for a celebratory farewell dinner together. 41 miles ±1750’.
Day 7: After breakfast, we shuttle everyone to Alnmouth train station by 9:30am for connections to Edinburgh, London or beyond. Cheerio!
