Why is WomanTours for women only?
Bicycle tours by women, for women
Since our humble beginnings back in 1995, WomanTours has always been a woman-owned and operated company serving women who love exploring the world by bike. In other words, bicycle tours by women, for women. It’s our niche and we are proud of it.
But why? Well, as much as we love our husbands, brothers, and guy friends, we do think it’s a completely different vibe when it’s just the gals. A different vibe with these unique benefits.
Bicycle tour mutual support and fun, not competition
At all of our tours, we foster a spirit of mutual support and enjoyment rather than performance and rivalry. Regardless of how fast or slow you ride, everyone involved in our tours will be cheering you on. We let YOU set your cycling goals, then we do whatever we can to help you achieve them.
It starts with our all-women office staff, who are always available to answer your questions and talk through your concerns about an upcoming tour. Just call or email.
It continues with the tour literature you receive after you sign up. We have packing lists, training schedules, safety tips and more to help you in the months leading up to your trip.
Great gals, great bike tour guides
Once you get to the tour, our professional guides (again, all women) take over. Before every ride, they will review the route to let you know where to find the rest stops, where to watch out for traffic and where some of the most stunning photo opps are. They are loaded with skill-building tips to help you tackle the hills or mileage you didn’t think you could do. And they are always ready to offer words of encouragement to boost your confidence and elevate your motivation.
Our guides will also encourage you to listen to your body. There is no shame in walking up a hill if you need a little break from pedaling, or hopping in the SAG (support and gear) vehicle when you are simply too tired. You could even take the entire day off the bike, if that's what you feel like. This is your vacation after all, and we don’t want you to spend it nursing sore muscles and injuries. We applaud anyone who respects her limitations by making decisions that prioritize safety and health. It’s our M.O. as well.
Cycling friendships just waiting to happen
Another fountain of support and wisdom will likely come from your riding companions. Perhaps they will inspire you with their never-give-up attitude, or share their stories of overcoming a fear that you are struggling with, or keep you company on a rainy morning ride. At group meals, they are sounding boards for the funny stories and surprising sights you’ve seen while on the road or bike path, and will be glad to share their own entertaining or insightful observations as well. These riders could become life-long friends. We’ve seen it happen over and over again, the way cycling brings women together.
Experts in women's bike touring
Our team of highly trained professionals knows the needs and issues that women cyclists face, such as how to keep your saddle area comfy to how to pick restaurants and lodging venues that feel welcoming, not weird. We select and purchase rental bikes and gear based on women’s unique physiology. And our guides are always happy to adjust your bike to maximize comfort and efficiency.
Oh, and our gal guides and staff do something else that is kind of remarkable. We listen. If you need an ear to talk about tour-related concerns, we are here. No mansplaining.
