Lake Tahoe & Sacramento Bike Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: Welcome to California! Settle into your hotel in the historic district of Old Sacramento, where wooden sidewalks, Victorian architecture, and riverfront views create a unique blend of past and present. After check-in, we’ll gather for an orientation and bike fitting, followed by a relaxing dinner in the heart of Old Sac. It’s the perfect chance to meet your fellow riders, ease into the week, and start soaking in the spirit of adventure. 0 miles.
Day 2: Our first full day on two wheels begins with one of the most beloved bike paths in the state—the American River Trail. This car-free, paved bike path winds through oak groves, meadows, and along the shimmering river, leading us to the charming village of Fair Oaks. We'll enjoy a relaxed picnic in the park, perhaps with the company of the village’s famous free-range chickens, before retracing our route to Sacramento. 47 miles +/-827'
DAY 3: Today, we trade the river for the mountains. After breakfast, we’ll shuttle up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains, climbing into fresh alpine air and forested landscapes. Along the way, we’ll stop for a scenic picnic lunch before stretching our legs on a memorable hike through the historic Donner Lake train tunnels. These rock-hewn tunnels, once part of the transcontinental railroad, offer a cool, otherworldly walk with dramatic lake views and stories etched into the stone. 0 miles biking, 1.5-2 hours hiking
DAY 4: This is a day to remember. We’ll ride along the shores of Lake Tahoe, one of the most stunning alpine lakes in the world. The route follows 70% paved bike paths, offering peaceful climbs, sweeping lake views, and sweet descents through pine forests. Our turnaround point is Meeks Bay, a quiet, picturesque cove with turquoise waters and a sandy beach—perfect for dipping your toes or relaxing during our lakeside picnic. Then we return with full hearts (and maybe a few souvenirs of sunshine on our skin). 43 miles. +/-1962'
DAY 5: Today’s ride is classic Sierra scenery at its finest. We’ll head out to circle the tranquil waters of Donner Lake, framed by granite cliffs and evergreen trees. If you’re craving a little more challenge, an optional loop up Northwoods Boulevard adds a fun climb and some extra miles. After our picnic by the lake, we’ll roll back to our resort with that satisfied, post-ride glow. 40 +/-3073 optional loop adds 9 miles and +/- 880'.
DAY 6: Our final riding day is a loop full of variety and charm. We’ll pedal from North Lake Tahoe into the mountain town of Truckee, where you’ll have time to explore the shops, cafés, and historic main street on your own for lunch. From there, we’ll head toward Kings Beach on Lake Tahoe’s north shore before completing the loop back to our resort. It’s a day that captures everything we love about this region—great roads, good food, mountain charm, and lakeside serenity. 35 miles.+/-3190'
DAY 7: After one last breakfast together, we’ll board our shuttle back to Sacramento. You’ll leave with strong legs, new friendships, and unforgettable memories of a week spent chasing beauty on two wheels. 0 miles.
