Croatia Bike & Boat Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: We check-in by 12:30pm onboard our private yacht docked in Dubrovnik, an ancient city dubbed the Pearl of the Adriatic. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik’s old city has massive 16th century stone walls surrounding it. If you arrive early, take time to walk along the walls and admire the views of the cliffs and sea, or go shopping along the limestone paved Stradun lined with small stores.

Our home for the week, the MS Melody, has 18 cabins each with its own bathroom. Some of the rooms are above-deck and have a porthole and a door that open to the outside. Other rooms are below-deck with a door that opens into a center hallway and a porthole to the outside. These rooms are quieter, darker, and tend to sway less, even though our boat generally experiences minimal rocking. The Melody also features a dining room, sunbathing deck and hot tub.

We will take a guided tour of the old city before returning to the boat for an orientation and the first of many delicious Croatian dinners. The boat stays docked in Dubrovnik for the night. 0 miles.

DAY 2: In the morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast on the boat and sail to the island of Mljet, known as the Green Island because of its thick Aleppo Pine forests that carpet 90 percent of the surface and impart an alluring fragrance. We will pedal across the island, to the small port of Pomena, where we will set sail again for the island of Korčula, believed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. 19 miles, +1771’/-820’.

DAY 3: Korčula is known for its vineyards and its unique Grk wine, olive groves, cypress trees, sword dancing and small villages. Starting in the town of Korčula, you’ll notice the streets are laid out in a herringbone pattern that both protects inhabitants from strong winds and encourages healthy air circulation. We will enjoy a locavore picnic lunch before meeting up again with our boat in Vela Luka, a sleepy fishing town that sits pretty on a sparkling blue bay. 38 miles, +3280’/-1148’.

DAY 4: During breakfast, we sail to Hvar, an island known for its celebrity residents and visitors, from Beyoncé (who named her daughter after a tree she found there) to Bono. Cycling from the town of Hvar, we head to Jelsa, a bay town situated between two mountains and hemmed in by beautiful pine forests. If you like ice cream, you can satisfy your craving and get your kicks and licks before sailing to the island of Brač for the night. 19 miles, +1673’/-1325’.

DAY 5: The island of Brač definitely has its up and its down. Our ride starts with a steady six-mile climb, where your efforts will be rewarded with a beautiful view and the knowledge that it’s mostly downhill from here. Our first stop will be the town of Pučišća, with its dazzling white stone buildings mined from the island’s limestone quarries. It might look familiar, as the White House is built with the very same Brač limestone. To reward our cycling efforts, we’ll take a swim in the Adriatic Sea, and then make our way to the town of Postira, our home for the night. 14 miles +1574’/-1443.’.

DAY 6: We cross the island of Brač by bike this morning, meeting our boat at the end of our ride. Then we’ll enjoy lunch as we sail to Split, the largest city on the Croatian coast.

In the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to raft Class II rapids on the Cetina River. Your expert guides will be national rafting team veterans. If rafting is not your thing, then you can hike with us through Marjan Hill, a rare expanse of green forest with stunning viewpoints of the sea and town below. Or you can wander through Split on your own. 18 miles, +1312'/-564'.

DAY 7: After breakfast, we’ll have a guided walking tour of Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace in the center of town. The UNESCO World Heritage Site was first constructed in the 3rd century and has been transformed over the centuries to accommodate the needs of the time. It is still being used today and is a beautiful and captivating place.

During our sail to Trogir, we’ll anchor for one last swim in the Adriatic on a secluded beach. Then we’ll celebrate the end of our wonderful week together with a Captain’s Dinner in the evening. 0 miles.

Day 8  We’ll say our good-byes after breakfast this morning. You are free to travel to the Split airport on your own for your return home. 0 miles.
